On the Town, Candide, Martin Charnin Part of Seattle Celebrates Bernstein

By: Andy Propst · Nov 2, 2009  · Seattle

Programming has been announced for Seattle Celebrates Bernstein, to be held from April through June of 2010.

Groups from around Seattle will be involved with the event that includes The 5th Avenue Theatre's productions of On the Town, which will feature members of Spectrum Dance Theater, and Candide. Tony Award winner Martin Charnin (who was in the original company of West Side Story) will participate in Memories of Lenny, a conversation presented by Showtunes Theatre Company and Seattle Theatre Group.

Other aspects of the celebration include The Seattle International Film Festival's screening of three Bernstein-scored movies, including On the Waterfront; the Seattle Gay Men's Chorus and Seattle Women's Chorus Glitter and Be Gay concert; a performance of Bernstein's music from The Lark; a series of concerts offered by the Seattle Symphony; Collaborating with Bernstein, a panel discussion with performers who worked with the composer-conductor; selections from the composer's Jewish-themed repertoire offered by the Seattle Jewish Chorale; and a series of free lunchtime concerts.
